Celebrate National Library Week With Us

The McDermott Library is celebrating National Library Week next week, April 7-13, by participating in events that highlight the valuable role libraries, librarians and library staff play in transforming lives on and off the UT Dallas campus.

On Wednesday, April 10, join the Eugene McDermott Library librarians for their bi-monthly “Meet Your Librarian” coffee break between 10 a.m. and noon in the atrium space outside MC 1.204 on the first floor of the library. Enjoy a free cup of coffee and get to know other students and McDermott staff in an informal setting. This coffee hour will be tailored for National Library Week and will include candy and other goodies while supplies last.

National Library Workers’ Day is also a special day during National Library Week to recognize the unique contributions that library workers make to help patrons find the information they need to learn, research, collaborate and work. The library will honor its amazing staff with a burrito breakfast the morning of April 10.

Also part of National Library Week is the McDermott Library’s annual Faculty Author Reception, which will be held on Thursday, April 11. This year, the library will honor 37 UT Dallas faculty members, as well as a student and a staff member, who have published or edited a book of produced a creative work such as a musical composition, theatrical production, audio and video recordings during the past year. The McDermott Suite will be transformed into an art gallery showcasing commemorative posters of each faculty author and the name of his or her work.

First sponsored in 1958, the week is an annual observance by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April.
