Research Compliance

Office of Research Compliance provides information on research activities which are governed by a number of research oversight committees and boards imposed by federal and state laws.

Non-compliance can result in severe penalties to the institution, and in some instances, to the individual. It is the responsibility of faculty and staff to be familiar with UTD policy as it relates to these research compliance areas.

IRB

An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee whose primary responsibility is to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants.

The IRB reviews research studies to ensure that these studies are ethical and protect the rights of the donors/participants.

The IRB committee also reviews research protocols and consent forms to determine compliance with all relevant regulations.

There is no limit to the time and energy an IRB could spend on protocol review, research monitoring, continuing education, and the process of informed consent.

IACUC

UTD is guided by federal regulations and ethical principles intended to ensure the humane care and use of animals in research.

All research involving vertebrae animals that is conducted or authorized under the jurisdiction of The University of Texas at Dallas is subject to review by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

This review must be conducted before a project can be started.
