Student Guide to Electronic & Print Course Reserves

Electronic Reserve Information for Students

The McDermott and Callier Libraries offer electronic access to required and recommended materials that supplement classroom teaching.

How do I access my professor’s Electronic Reserve materials?

E-Reserves may be accessed one of two ways:

1) Go to the UTD Electronic Reserve site (http://utdallas.docutek.com/eres/). You may search the Electronic Reserve site by professor’s name, course number, or document title.

2) E-Reserves may also be accessed through the library’s catalog under the Course Reserve tab (see reservesvc.htm). You may search the catalog by professor’s name or by course number. Electronic Reserves links appear at the top of the professor’s Reserve listings. If the Professor has material on Reserve for more than one course, then each course will have a separate link.

Can I access Electronic Reserves from home?

Yes, all electronic reserve materials are accessible off-campus. This means that you must enter your UTD-ID before you can access electronic materials.

Why is it asking me for a password?

Access to electronic reserve copyrighted material is limited by means of a course password. Once professors’ materials have been processed, they will receive an e-mail with password information. It is the professors’ responsibility to communicate the password to their students. If you cannot remember your password, you must contact your professor. Library staff members do not know the password.

What is an e-mail alert?

Under the Course Info tab in the E-Reserve system, students have the option to sign up for e-mail alerts. This service is beneficial if additions/deletions to the course list will be made throughout the semester. If you sign up for this service, you will receive an e-mail each time an assignment has been added to the course list. E-mail addresses are blind copied to protect the privacy of students.

Who can I contact if I am having trouble accessing Reserve materials?

If you have any problems or questions with Electronic Reserve materials, then please notify the Reserves Coordinator at 972-883-2587, Allen Clayton at 214-905-3165, or a Reference Librarian at 972-883-2955.

Print Reserves Information for Students

Library materials or professors’ personal copies of assigned reading are on Reserve either at the Circulation Desk, 2nd Floor in McDermott for classes being taught in Richardson or the Circulation Desk at Callier for those being taught at the Dallas campus of Callier Center.

How do I get this book (or copied article) that is on Reserve for my class?

You must ask the Circulation staff for the book or article by its call number. Reserve materials are not shelved by course number or professor’s name.

How do I obtain the call number?

To get your professor’s list of Reserve materials, search the library’s catalog. Under the Course Reserve tab, you can search by either professor’s name or course number. Once you have searched by course number or professor’s name, then that professor’s Reserve material list appears. Click on the title you need. This will take you to the record which provides you with the call number and status information.

Can I make copies from books on Reserve?

Yes, you may make copies in the library. McDermott photocopiers accept cash, coins, and Comet Cards. The Callier photocopier accepts cash and coins only.
