What can I do to check for interference in the Waterview Apartments? There are three main areas of interference: personal Access Points, 2.4GHz cordless phones, and physical factors . Many residents have elected to run personally obtained 802.11b wireless AP's - these need to be set to operate on channels 1, 6, or 11 in order to minimize interference with AirUTD equipment. You should consult your owner's manual for configuration procedures. Since the 802.11b network runs in the 2.4GHz spectrum, use of cordless phones in that operating range will cause interference - switching to 900MHz or 5GHz devices can remove this source of interference. The final location of your wireless antenna can be a signficant factor too, especially in areas where the AirUTD signal is weak. Generally speaking, a straight line between your location and the front door of the apartment is the path to the AirUTD antenna, so the closer you are to the front door and the fewer obstacles (including you) along the path, the better. |
