Professor (Rank Open) in Literary Studies: Creative Writing
The School of Arts and Humanities
The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure track position, rank open, in Creative Writing, with an emphasis on prose fiction. A record of publication and teaching short stories and dramatic forms (plays and/or screenplays) is preferred. The ability to offer graduate and undergraduate courses not only in Creative Writing but also in American or other literature is highly desirable, as is the ability to place literature in a broader humanistic context. Appointment will begin September 1, 2009.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to publishing, undergraduate and graduate teaching, interdisciplinary education and research, and professional academic service. The School offers an interdisciplinary program built on four interrelated areas: Literary Studies, Historical Studies, and Aesthetic Studies (including Art and Performance) and Arts and Technology. In addition, the School has an internationally renowned program in Translation Studies.
The academic philosophy of the School emphasizes the fusion of critical with creative thinking as well as linkages among various modes of knowledge and artistic expression. Located in suburban Dallas, UTD is a dynamic, growing research institution with a diverse student body (ca. 15,000) and a strong research faculty.
