Maintaining Scholarship Eligibility

Academic Excellence Scholarship students must remain in good academic standing to insure their continued eligibility for scholarship support. The following information pertains to the level of scholarship award:

Recognition and Higher Recognition

The Recognition and Higher Recognition awards require a per semester GPA of 3.00, completion of 15 UTD semester hours (30 hours within an academic year), and completion of at least 75% of registered courses each semester.

Distinction, Honors and National Merit

The Distinction, Honors, and National Merit awards require a per semester GPA of 3.00 in the freshman year and a per semester GPA of 3.25 every semester thereafter, completion of 15 UTD semester hours (30 hours within an academic year), and completion of at least 75% of registered courses each semester.

Probation

Scholarship recipients are allowed two probationary periods for failing to meet the requirements of their scholarship.  The third violation will result in termination.  Students who are placed on probation must sign and submit a Probation Contract along with a completed Advisor Meeting Form to the AES Office.  A minimum of four meetings with an advisor is required.  Failure to meet any of the above will result in an additional probation or termination.

Termination

If a student has two probations and fails to meet the requirements of the scholarship a third time, the student's AES award will be terminated.

It is possible for a student to be terminated from their scholarship within one academic year:  Students failing to meet the GPA requirement in the fall semester and in the spring semester and failing to earn 30 hours within the academic year will have their AES award terminated. Additionally, students failing to meet an AES requirement in the fall semester and an AES requirement in the spring semester and not fulfilling the probation terms will have their AES award terminated.

A scholarship recipient who withdraws from the university or does not enroll for a semester regardless of the reason will be terminated from his or her  scholarship if they fail to notify the AES Office.
